This is a film of the second wave of water energy to ripple and hit the coast of California following last night's 8.9 earthquake in Japan. The first wave of energy to reach the shore of California hit about 20 minutes before this and there were expected to be 7 waves in total, of varying strength. The water in the harbor slowly receded, on par with a very low-tide day, and then the water slowly started filling back in, gaining momentum till it reached the point in the video which was very quite strong. Tsunami hitting Ventura harbor on 2/27/2010 following the 8.8 Earthquake in Chile. See the surge of the tsunami as it rolled into the Ventura Harbor. A few things that viewers may want to know about this video before you write your comment. First of all, this video was shot more than 2 hrs after the Tsunami rolled into Ventura harbor and what you are seeing is a surge that was generated by the tsunami, not a wave that many would expect. Tsunami's generally do not come ashore as a wave, they come as a surge of water. Yes, I live on my boat so no, I did NOT go running to the water's edge with my dog, I was at home on my boat, watching the news when I saw that the wave was hitting Hawaii and noticed that we were on the same projected course. When I looked out and saw the water emptying out of the harbor (a classic definition of what happens immediately prior to a tsunami, the water rushes out to sea), I grabbed the dog and banged on every boat's hull as we ran down the dock getting my neighbors up and out of harms way and didn't look back for an instant as we all ran off the dock as quickly as we could to higher and dryer ground. This video was then shot after we had watched the surging of the tsunami from a safe distance for more than 2 hrs and had determined that the worst had past and it was safe to go check on our homes. On March 11, 2011, Japan was stricken by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake followed by major Tsunamis.
