Yahoo Answers - Resolved Questions

  1. Resolved Question: How far along are embryos used in stem cell research? - From the implanting of the sperm to the egg, how old do these embryos, at the latest, get before the cells are extracted and embryo is "killed" (for lack of a better term)? I'm not trying, even a little bit, to debate the morality of this. I am simply curious. Are they just a few days old? Do they let them grow for weeks, months?
  2. Resolved Question: Is strange that im liberal but oppose Abortion,Euthanasia and Human embryonic stem cell research............? - I consider myself liberal on most issues, but i take a absolutist position on Abortion and Euthanasia and Human stem cell research. The reason i hold these positions is mostly to do with my religious beliefs(being a Christian and all). In the case of Abortion, i believe in the sanctity of life and a lot of the pro-choice arguments i simply dont find convincing. Im really not convinced by the insinuation that since its apart of the mother's womb, the baby does not have as much right to live as when it is out of the womb. When it comes to Euthanasia, my view on this is that if it were to be allowed, it would lead to a slippery slope scenario. The message it sends is that if doctors can't find a treatment for the current ailment that a person is inflicted with, then assisted suicide is the next option. I think this sends a bad ethical precedent. When it comes to Human embryonic stem cell research, I support Adult stem cells, Amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. I dont believe in the use of human stem cells because i believe that life starts at conception, and because as i pointed out my Christian world view informs my view on the sanctity of life The positions i would be liberal on would be the following: -Opposition to the Death penalty -Support for welfare and social insurance -Support for gun control -Support for free access to education -Support for subsidized health care -Government regulation of the markets -Support for renewable energy -The separation of Church and State -Opposition to pre-emptive war -Same-sex marriage(I dont necessarily support it, but because i believe in the principle of separation of church and state, i dont believe it should be illegal. If it were to be illegal because the Bible says its a sin, then you'd have to make other things the bible considers a sin like Adultery and lying illegal as well) Am i Contradicting myself, and if so how........? @Gwennie B, yes because i wanted to ask this both on the religion/spirituality section, and the politics section because both sections answer questions that have to do with this topic. But lol, i know im being extremely repetitive :) @torgo, when i did i say i know more than the Supreme Court? I dont. Im just stating my view. And if the Supreme Court supported a ruling that went against what you believe, are you gonna take the same stand? Take for example the citizens united case. This has allowed foreign political donations to enter the American political system which many oppose. I dont think the people who oppose the Courts decision are gonna sit back and use that logic
  3. Resolved Question: Isn't it ironic that stem cell research turned Christopher Reeves into a supervillain? - Luckly Gene Hackman turned into a superhero and trapped Christopher or Chris as he is now called in the Phantom Zone putting an end to his fetus sucking days. So you see, stem cell research eventually leads to evil. That proved it. PS: If you don't know what I'm talking about then why are you answering?
  4. Resolved Question: Need help for thesis statement for stem cell research? - I need to do a paper on stem cell research and i need a good thesis statement. My teacher said that I need to have my opinion on why I think stem sell Is ok.
  5. Resolved Question: Stem Cell Research: Why not? - What's wrong with trying to save children, cure diseases and extend lives? Surely even the MUSLIM and CHRISTIAN Gods would approve of that! Only a sadist wouldn't!
  6. Resolved Question: Vadican and stem cells research ? - Anyone knows wherever the Vadican stands on stem cell research
  7. Resolved Question: What are the social policies that are violated/breached by embryonic stem cell research? - I'm doing a dissertation about the ethics of utilizing embryonic stem cells in modern medicine and part of my dissertation involves a definition of a social policy and it is included into the criteria of an ethical issue. To really help me point, I thought that including some social policies that embryonic stem cell research breach/violate would help show that it is an ethical issue. Could I get any help please?
  8. Resolved Question: What is stem cell research? - Why is it so controversial? Why is it always brought up at presidential debates?
  9. Resolved Question: What is the current status of stem cell research? - I need to know what kinds of things we can do, and the status of it.
  10. Resolved Question: What realm of Popular Culture does Stem Cell Research fall under? - i have a class paper due in 3 days, and it has to combine a topic of my choice with popular culture. So does stem cell fall under the popular culture category, and if so what sub-category?

Yahoo Answers - Open Questions

  1. Open Question: As a computer science engineer, how can I help in stem cell research? - I'm a computer science engineer, and am interested in designing, developing, and distributing equipment that would help scientists and researchers carry out stem cell research and clinical trails including embryonic, adult, or induced pluripotent stem cells. There seems to be little talk prevalent on the type of computer science (or electronic or mechanical or any equipment-based technology) required to assist stem cell research. At this point, I'm intrigued about: 1. Is there a company anywhere in the world that is dedicated to providing equipment to stem cell research? 2. To whom do the universities and research institutes usually turn to when they need more cutting-edge technology as lab equipment? Also, I want to do a master's degree in stem cell technology to academically learn the different types of cells, how they are cultured, their differentiation, etc. Considering that my ultimate aim is to build software and hardware for research and clinical trials, can you suggest a university (in Europe, North America) I can best apply for?
  2. Open Question: Can stem cell research get more govt support? - Can stem cell research get more govt help? im doing a project for school, and i know that obama lifted the federal restrictions on using govt funding for embryonic stem cell research, but can more be done?

  4. Open Question: How can a 15 year old get involved in stem cell research? - Don't discourage me solely because of my age - I genuinely am interested in this. I reside in the UK and have a few exams this year. Obviously I'm going to be focusing on the exams but in summer I want to really get involved with stem cell research, so how can I? Thanks to those who answer helpfully.
  5. Open Question: Is it morally wrong to use umbilical cord stem cells for research? - As Christians would you donate umbilical cord tissue? A friend of mine said any stem cells are wrong to use in research, even adult stem cells.
  6. Open Question: What pop culture media has touched on the debate of stem cell research that I can edit into a short video? - I am doing a school project on the morality of stem cell research (both embryo and other) for my grade 12 religion class. As part of the assignment we must have some sort of visual presentation, and I have decided to make a short video. I am looking for any short clips from movies, tv shows, youtube videos, radio shows, celebrity/world leader quotes and anything else of that nature to put into my video. They can either be for or against stem cell research. Please provide a link to the website where I can find the clip. All suggestions are greatly appreciated!
  7. Open Question: What type of people are against stem cell research? - I just want to know what type of people are against it.
