1. Resolved Question: 6 month old puppy on Phenobarbital? - My german shepard/husky puppy started having seizures after her rabies shot and the vet put her on Phenobarbital. its been about 6 weeks since they put her on it and, aside from having seizures every once in a while and excessive hunger, nothing happened. For the last week,I've noticed wet spots on the wood floor. Is she losing control of her bladder? Is this 'normal'?

3. Resolved Question: How do I get my dog on phenobarbital to walk again? - My golden retriever (4 years old) had grand mal, cluster and complex partial seizures on December 23, 2011. We immediately took him to the emergency vet because he is our baby and there was no reason for the seizures. He was put on the phenobarbital to control the seizures and for the first two days at home, he wouldn't get up at all. But the week after, he was walking around all the time and we could rarely get him to sit down. For the past few days, we've noticed that his hind legs aren't working very well (aka, he can't stand up on his own, can't walk very well, can't get up on the couch like he used to, can barely sit down without falling over.) We've been picking him up when he wants to get up, but it is pretty hard to lift a 125lb dog who is 4in. taller than show height. He's getting frustrated and depressed and it hurts all of us in the family to see him like this knowing that he used to be a bouncy, playful and cuddly dog. Is this a side effect of the seizures? Or is it a side effect of the phenobarbital? Will it ever go away? Also: He was diagnosed with Valley Fever (common for AZ residents) growing in his brain so he's on and anti-fungal for it as well as the phenobarbital to ensure he won't have any seizures.

Resolved Question: Why did my Vet use Phenobarbital during neuter surgery? - My Frenchie had Neuter surgery, on the bill it stated Phenobarb was used, asked the tech she said your dog has seizures ( he does not), when I questioned the vet the next day, she said she uses it as one of the sedatives, standard procedure. When I asked the owner of the clinic who owns a Frenchie he said it used as sedative although not very common and that he would use it for his Frenchie. Any comments/thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks The whole list of meds used: Dexamethazone, Torbugesic, Midazolam, Diprivan,Glycopyrrolate, Hydromorphone, does that seem excessive for a quick neuter surgery? The reason I question the Phenobarb is the Vet tech told me it was because my dog has seizures (he does not) and the vet said standard procedures. Does that change the dynamics a little bit? I have also asked other people who have had this procedure done by the same vet if Pheno was used and it has not. These dogs are brachycephalic as well. So why mine. I am waiting for a response from the vet. This Tech was familiar with my dog as he went into respiratory distress and had him sit on her lap for 4 hrs to monitor his breathing.

Resolved Question: has anyone treated there dog with Phenobarbital for Epilepsy? - my 1 and a half yr old Siberian Husky has been having seizers started 4weeks ago when he had hes first seizer we took him to our vets were they said he might have epilepsy but didnt give us any medication to treat him or anything we just got sent home and was told to be cvalm round him when hes having a seizer and that was all but yesterday morning he had a seizer lasted a long time and once that finished another 4 followed :( he didnt know where he was or who me and my partner was he was walking around the garden like a lost soul, then he just collapsed and i said to my partner time to take him in. he then had another sieze in the car whilst taking him to the vets we got to the vets and they said they STILL THINK!! its epilepsy ( why are the vets not doing test on him ) they said he will have to stay in over night they rang me partner to go down to the vets to hold our dog whilst they put a drip in ( surly they were capable of doing this without my partner being there ) 4 hrs later we get a phone call saying to pick him up when he got home he didn't recognized me or my partner he didn't even know hes brother? we have 2 husky's by the way. so we left him over night to see if he would become more aware but still this morning hes not the same constantly crying falling over things and generally no the same dog were used to. i was just wondering if anybody else has treated there dog with this drug and does it make the dog act differently or has the seizes done something to hes brain??? please give me answers
