Had to fiddle with the audio a bit to bypass copyright blocks. ------- "Freedom Downtime" is the story of computer hacker Kevin Mitnick, imprisoned without bail for nearly five years. The film tries to uncover the reasons why the authorities are so scared of Mitnick as well as define what exactly he did. As word of a new Hollywood movie portraying Mitnick as a terrorist becomes known, hackers begin to turn to activism to get their message out. Through interviews with relatives, friends, lawyers, and experts in the computer and civil liberties arena, a picture of a great injustice becomes apparent. A cross country journey uncovers some realities of the hacker culture as well as the sobering reality that so many technically adept young people seem destined for prison. It was directed by Don Hartman who co-wrote screenplay with Edwin H. Knopf, based on play by Edwin H. Knopf. The music score is by Bronisław Kaper. One event in the film that slipped by un-noticed was when Lana Turner (at her own insistence and after an argument with the director) introduced "The Guadalajara Trio" by name, although they were not listed in the screen credits. In the manner of the way that Latino actors and musicians were often treated, they were also omitted from the credits of several other films like 'My Friend Irma Goes West" with Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis even though they did several beautiful songs. Turner reached the height of her fame in the 1940s and 1950s. During World War II, Turner became a popular pin-up girl due to her popularity in such films such as Ziegfeld Girl (1941), Johnny Eager (1942), and four films with Metro--Goldwyn--Mayer's "king of the lot," Clark Gable. The Turner-Gable films' successes were only heightened by gossip-column rumors about a relationship between the two. Turner even had a B-17 Flying Fortress—the Tempest Turner—named after her.
