- CSAV Hawaii: Puu Oo Lava 2011 Perched Pond - Amazing telephoto footage of Madame Pele's lava lake, June 2011, inside Puu Oo crater. Back then, lava was circulating within an elevated pond, spattering, and overflowing the raised edge. Bubble bursts at 1:27. A piece of the edge caves into the pond at 1:42. Current conditions are very different. In July 2011, the entire crater floor uplifted, carrying the perched pond with it. Then in August, the crater flow deflated rapidly, and a new flow broke out at the base of Puu Oo's west flank. Recent deformation makes the area even more unstable than previously, and hence, it remains off-limits to the general public for safety reasons. Please respect the rules of the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy views of Pu'u O'o from the comfort & safety of your own home, via the USGS web cam: volcanoes.usgs.gov Read about current conditions at Pu'u O'o: volcanoes.usgs.gov Visit the CSAV web site: hilo.hawaii.eduFrom: CenterStudyVolcanoesViews: 650

If the 2 to 3ft trough that preceded many of the waves is included, the total wave heights can be assumed to have reached 8 to 9ft in the back of the Wailuku estuary. If you can't tell in the footage, I broke the law in a thousand ways to make this film. My mom, aunt and I were the only ones we could see in the tsunami evacuation area. All of the parkland around us was created after a tsunami in 1960 leveled all of the buildings in the center of the city. I am very aware that what I did was not safe. If a 35ft wave were to have unexpectedly come in, I could have easily been killed. Even so, I live to see incredible displays of natures power like this. Much like driving a race car or parachuting from an airplane, it's a passion that inherently comes with certain risks. From: StormChaserMaxViews: 150321

14 ratingsTime: 04:00 More in Entertainment - Big Island Hawaii. Part 25. Hilo Farmers Market. - December 2009. The Hilo Farmers Market is a must-see experience when you are on the Big Island. Over 200 local farmers and crafters sell their produce, crafts, gift items and tropical flowers in a festive outdoor atmosphere that recalls back to the old "plantation" days of early Hilo. Located at the corner of Mamo Street and Kamehameha Avenue in historic downtown Hilo, it's open all year round, every Wednesday and Saturday, from dawn til' it's gone. The Hilo Farmers Market has a large variety of tropical fruits and vegetables grown right here in the Hawaiian Islands. We have several vendors with certified organic produce too. Some of our newest vendors include Paradise Pops-Tropical Popsicles and Lava Salsa. Conceived and developed in 1988 by Richard "Mike" Rankin, the Hilo Farmers Market had a humble beginning with only four farmers who sold their goods from their parked cars and trucks. Today, the market has grown to over 200 vendors selling everything from fresh island fruits and vegetables to locally grown tropical flowers, special Big Island food products, handmade craft items and beautiful gift.
