Resolved Question: Why has there yet to be a massive earthquake aka "The Big one" in Southern California? - Supposedly the San Andreas Fault is suppose to crack open and "destroy" all of southern California. I live on the east coast, and yes I live right in Virginia, right where we just had that 5.9 quake strike us a couple months ago. And since then I have been curious when the fault line out west is suppose to go crazy. Since I was like in 1st grade over here, we have been told that "any day now the San Andreas Fault is going to cause an earthquake beyond anything ever felt in world history and completely swallow up all of Southern California". Seriously that's what we have been taught over here. from elementary school up to high school. Like as if there scaring us from ever going out to L.A or Orange county or san francisco, San Diego, etc!. Just curious why/how it hasn't happened yet? Is there something I don't know? Or that our science/ earth science/ teachers haven't said? I hope I don't come off rude or anything, like I said majority of public students here are taught that, southern california is going to be no more. And I'm not going to lie, my friend goes to school out there in L.A, and I'm afraid to visitor him cause I have this feeling I'm going to go out there, and then BAM a 12.9 ridiculous earthquake happens. Can someone put some truth to this?

They act like we have 7.0 earthquakes every month, mudslides that kill hundreds, and wildfires that burn down entire cities. When people talk about the great weather in CA, they fire back with the mudslides, earthquakes, and wildfires, as if that is considered "weather". Well newsflash, the last major earthquake we had was in 1994, most of them you don't even feel. The building codes here are very high and earthquakes here don't kill as many people as they kill in undeveloped countries. Mudslides only affect people living on hills, and wildfires only happen in forests in the hills. Why do people act like CA is constantly in total carnage? Cal is not the only state to experience natural disasters, including earthquakes. You can't build a house to withstand an F4 tornado! And no, CA is not going to fall into the ocean. That's impossible. It will break off the US and become an island while we're rotting in our graves. Question is, why are people so ignorant about this? I don't go around hating Florida telling people not to go there acting like it gets deadly hurricanes once a month! Rex, you've been here twice so all of a sudden you're an expert? LOL. You have way too much time on your hands. Find a hobby that doesn't involve hanging around a forum on a city you hate and talking crap about it constantly. Ty, hahaha! We're not all that stupid!
