Although he was cleared of wrong doing, doubt still remains of his innocence. Below is one opinion of the situation. One I agree with. Keep in mind while I have found out that it wasn't a closet, but rather the visiting teams media room. I don't know about the lock-up, except that James kid had a concussion, and a quiet dark place is the first thing doctors do with you. At issue was an accusation by a player and his parents that the player, who had a mild concussion, was confined in a small, dark space for a few hours. There are two sides to the story, of course. But even if what happened is as bad as what the player says it is, all I can think is, "What's the big deal?" Whenever we talk on the main site about this generation being coddled and namby pamby, some will invariably challenge that assertion. Now we've talked about the danger in over romanticizing the past, and certainly not everyone of yesteryear was an ox, and everyone today is a wimp, but on average, this is a wimpier generation. I could fill many pages with anecdotes to prove my point. Here's one for example-I was just talking to my friend who is a professor who teaches classes to MBA students. He said that at least once a semester, a student's parents will email or call him about their "child's" grades, asking why they got what they got and whether they can do extra credit to bring it up. These are the future leaders of business! I teach community college and it's happened to me as well. I can't imagine not feeling ashamed to have you parents talk to your college professor! So now you have a player who gets his coach fired because he runs to his parents when he feels he's mistreated. Other players said the accuser had a poor work ethic and a poor attitude. To me it smacks of a case of a kid feeling entitled and lashing out when he doesn't get his way. And of course Mangino also got fired this year for also failing to be sensitive enough. I fear we're creating a generation that needs to be treated with kid gloves where everyone has to tip toe around to avoid offending someone and getting the axe. Notice, the coach has been accused, but not convicted. Isn't that what James say's about the SMU scandal. Has ESPN over stepped their boundaries in allowing one of their employees to slander a college football coach before the facts have played out? Do you think it's possible James is using his experience with slush funds to channel funds from ESPN to teams in the SEC, insuring their players are "Taken care of" ?
