- Resolved Question: Do Amish People Speak A different language? - I'm watching true life and it sounds like they're speaking some kind of gaelic.
- Resolved Question: Does anyone know where I can learn the language of the Amish people? - I know about Pennsylvania Dutch, and I know that it isn't qctually named that or German. My family drives for Amish in Indiana, and I asked them what the name of their language was. She told me that Enhlish people (that's us) call it Pennsylvania Dutch but it doesn't really have a name. She's married with children, so I don't want to ask her to teach me. Is there anyone here who actually knows Amish people and there language, because all the websites I've seen, were wrong? I know about Pennsylvania Dutch, and I know that it isn't qctually named that or German. My family drives for Amish in Indiana, and I asked them what the name of their language was. She told me that English people (that's us) call it Pennsylvania Dutch but it doesn't really have a name. She's married with children, so I don't want to ask her to teach me. Is there anyone here who actually knows Amish people and there language, because all the websites I've seen, were wrong? PS. I'm considering becoming Amish (this is my opinion, please don't comment on this), so I want to be able to teach my children if I was to become Amish. Thank you. Thanks everyone for your comments and support! This info really helped! =)
- Resolved Question: Has anyone gone to Pennsylvania to talk to the Amish and to learn their language? - The Amish speak Pennsylvania Dutch. Academics prefer the term Pennsylvania German. Folks, Pennsylvania Dutch, also know as Pennsylvania German, is a language mixture of South West German dialects and English. It is a High German dialect, not Low German. The closest German dialect to it is spoken in Rheinland-Pfalz, the Rheinland-Palatinate, in the farming area between Kaiserslautern and Mannheim, although anybody from the Palatinate (Pfalz) is surprised how familiar Pa Dutch sounds.
- Resolved Question: How do I start to make a change to Amish? How should I start? And English is my only language.? - I'm going to the Amish Country in Ohio (can't remember the name of the area) this summer, and I want to blend in with (possibly) Amish clothes.... But yet, I am a computer-&-internet-addict. I've grown up in a normal American home, with all the modern and "extra" things with it. I don't have time to learn the Amish language, or clear my head of "modern" thinking! How do I start? Answers that HELP plz, thanx
- Resolved Question: The Amish, Native Americans, Eskimos and others have their own language and are Americans, why are Mexicans? - not allowed to have their own here in the USA? As a matter of fact, why and who asked the Eskimos to become citizens without their consent?
- Resolved Question: What language do Amish people speak? - I'm very interested in finding anything out on Amish people.Who knows anything about them? I think that they are unique in some way.Any Info would be very nice. Thanks to all of you in advance.
- Resolved Question: What language do the Amish speak? - i'm watching meet the Amish and they were speaking a different language as well as English?
